This is the time of year that all college basketball fans have been waiting for! And, if you happen to be a lifelong Kentucky basketball fan, you are even more excited than normal for this year’s March Madness! Coming off a 31-0 regular season, Kentucky basketball fans have high expectations for the post-season! Kentucky will be playing in the Southeastern Conference Tournament which begins today in Nashville. All conferences will finish up their conference tournaments this week, in time for the NCAA tournament next week!
My daughter is the ultimate UK basketball fan. A few years ago, when UK lost to WVU (the year John Wall & DeMarcus Cousins played) in the NCAA tournament, she was inconsolable. She cried her sweet self to sleep that night. We’re all hoping that there are no tears to be shed, this year!
For her birthday a few weeks ago, we celebrated with a small family basketball party. If you’ll be hosting a viewing party or just a simple get-together to watch some tournament games, you’ll love these simple basketball party ideas!
A few simple desserts in your team colors is all you need for a winning party! Blue and white was the inspiration for our party, but this look could be recreated with any team colors. Our dessert table was set up under our Kentucky Watercolor poster. If you are interested in purchasing a poster version of this print, please email me!
Simple vanilla cupcakes are topped with flags with a team cheer. Store bought cupcakes can easily be made into team desserts with this simple addition.
Make sure to serve a signature drink for your basketball party in your team’s colors. For our kid friendly party, we served blue Gatorade with blue & white striped straws. But, there are lots of great blue cocktails that work well if you are looking for a grown up drink!
Sprinkles in team colors are another way to add some team spirit to your party. Kids love jumbo marshmallows dipped in white chocolate and covered with blue and white sprinkles.
To make these team inspired parfaits, I started with blueberries in the bottom of a 4 ounce juice glass. They were topped with vanilla yogurt and sprinkles. Striped blue spoons taped to the side of the glass with washi tape make the desserts easy for guests to eat!
Blue gumballs or other candy add a great pop of color to the dessert table. You can also send guests home with some of the candy to enjoy after the game. Kraft pillow boxes tied with baker’s twine and topped with a basketball party circle make a perfect favor box!
Will you be celebrating your team for the NCAA Tournament? I think you know who we’ll be rooting for this March! GO CATS!!!!!
