TOPS in Lex magazine recently contacted me to write a special feature for their December edition. They had an idea for a holiday feature titled, Cookies, Crafts, & Cocktails. Since those are three of my favorite things, I was much obliged to contribute to the magazine! You can read the article in the December edition of TOPS in Lex.
I designed three different party ideas for the article that each incorporated cookies, crafts, & cocktails. The first party ideas was based on All is Calm, All is Bright Christmas Party. The second party idea was this Traditional Red & Blue Christmas Party.
To start, I wrapped a table with a red and white trellis graphic wrapping paper. Clear snowflake garland was also hung behind one side of the table. These simple ideas create a festive look for the table without much effort. A party sign was also placed on the table to welcome guests.
The first cookie for the table was a Coconut Snowball. It’s one of my favorite desserts to make because it is no bake and can be frozen to serve at a later date.
For party favors, I simply dipped candy can sticks in melted dark chocolate and let them harden on wax paper. The candy canes were tied with baker’s twine and place in a mini box with shred and a favor tag.
One of the two cocktails for this party was Pomegranate Margaritas. Pomegranates are one of my family’s favorite fruits. Since they are only in season for a portion of the year, we try to incorporate them in as many recipes as possible this time of year.
The other cookie I selected for this party is my current cookie obsession. These Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip cookies are my go-to cookie for the 2012 holiday season.
The craft I designed for this party was an Ombre Paper Christmas Tree. Folded paper trees are a traditional, somewhat old-fashioned Christmas craft. These trees have been updated with an ombre pattern, which is a currently a super hot party trend.
