One of the best parts of blogging is all the generous, fascinating people I’ve met through this adventure. So many creative, sweet, and all together fabulous people hang out online. One such person I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know a little bit is Christie Leigh Mueller. Christie Leigh authored GridIron Belles: A Guide to Saturdays in Dixie. Plus, she’s a Kentucky girl, so that automatically makes her alright to me!
And, now Christie Leigh has launched her new venture, SouthernLeague Magazine, a magazine dedicated to sport, culture, and style. SouthernLeague Magazine and its website embody its mantra: “SoLeagueMag is defining the culture & style surrounding the co-eds and young professionals of the South. Play hard. Work harder. Look good while doing it.”
Christie Leigh has answered a few questions to help you achieve that SouthernLeague style:
1.) Where did you find inspiration for the magazine?
SouthernLeague was created because I could never understand why people settled for ordinary when extraordinary was just a little hard work away.
Spending my time around SEC stadiums, universities, and cultures, I realized there is a new South. There is a new wave of drive from the current college co-eds and the recent graduates. I wanted to create a source where young people could turn to to be inspired to still have a great time but see how success is just at their finger tips. And, of course, it never hurts to look good while you’re playing or working!
2.) Can you give readers any tips for creating their own signature southern style?
Sometimes in the South we get caught up in fitting into the Southern mold of old rules or current trends. The key to a signature style is assembling pieces that make you feel like you can take on the world, turn heads, or attend an impromptu party. Find out what you feel good in and then make it unique!
3.) Out of all the beautiful photos in the magazine, which was your favorite?
How to pick just one! I’d have to say the handstand photo we took at the photoshoot in Athens, GA. To me, it screams fun. Our big thing at SouthernLeague is to play hard, work harder, and look good while doing it. Which is everything that is captured in this photo—life is meant to be enjoyed.
4.) What is your favorite southern dessert?
Being from Kentucky, I have a soft spot for Derby Pie. Pecans, chocolate, butter, and bourbon—what else is there to love in a dessert? Generally speaking, I enjoy anything that comes from a tattered recipe card that has been passed down through generations.
5.) What do you enjoy most about creating each edition of SouthernLeague?
I love putting together all of the unique stories of Southern culture I’ve collected throughout the year into a piece of art. I’m fortunate to meet thousands of people while on the road, all who have a different perspective and style of life which influences what we put forward as SouthernLeague.
Thank you so much for stopping by, Christie Leigh. Want to be inspired? Then, make sure you check out the lovely SouthernLeague Magazine!
