We recently went on a family beach trip to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. It’s a favorite beach spot of ours! We typically take a family beach vacation each summer with my sister and her family and my parents. My kids love spending the week at the beach with their cousins and grandparents.
For a fun little surprise, I made these hand lettered, personalized straw hats for all the girls. They were a a fun, inexpensive and pretty simple idea for a gift. They would be great for any type of family trip or girls trip to a tropical or beachy location.
I ordered the hats from Walmart.com. They come in a pack of three and are under $15 for all three. At less then $5 per hat, they are a great deal. Plus, I love the floppy look of them. They are a little more boho looking than some of the other straw hats I have seen.
You can hand letter them in any style you’d like to use. If you are interested in learning more about how to hand letter, join our free hand lettering email course at Anyone Can Letter.
Supplies:
Chalk
Time and Tru Women’s Straw Floppy Hat 3 Pack
Black and/or White Sharpie Oil Based Permanent Pen, Medium tip
Instructions:
- Using the chalk, write the names in a fun way on the back of the hat, centered with the hat tie. If you don’t know what style of lettering to use, practice first on paper until you find a style you like.
- Go over where you wrote the name with the Black or White Sharpie Oil Based Pen. Make sure to use the Oil Based pen. It won’t bleed as much as other pens, plus the finish is longer lasting.
- Since the hats will absorb some of the paint, go over your lettering, several times for a darker finish. I probably wrote over these names about 6 times each.
