If you are new to the Enneagram, you might have noticed people saying they are a 2w3 and wondered what that little “w” meant. It’s simply the way that people list their Enneagram Wing. So, the designation 2w3 means that the person is a Type 2 with a 3 Wing. If you want to read all about what you need to know about Wings, check out this post.
One important thing to remember about wings is that your Wing can only be one of the the numbers on either side of your primary Type. For example, if you are a Type 2, the only possible options you have for a wing are 1 or 3. Many people get this confused because they think their wing is the second highest number on an Enneagram test they took. Let’s take a look at the definition of the wing, from the Enneagram Institute:
No one is a pure personality type: everyone is a unique mixture of his or her basic type and usually one of the two types adjacent to it on the circumference of the Enneagram. One of the two types adjacent to your basic type is called your wing.
Today, we’re going to talk about the situation where you know your Type, but you just aren’t sure which one of your wings is more dominant. I recommend finding your primary Type first, before determining your Wing. So, if you are still unsure of your Type, start here first.
