I’m crazy in love with Valentine’s Day. I may have mentioned that a few times here before! It’s all about love, pink, hearts, and, of course, chocolate! The days leading up to Valentine’s, we make Valentines cards, bake heart shaped goodies, and buy little gifts for one another.
I can’t say that I typically buy a holiday themed shirt or outfit for Valentines or other holidays. I do have a J.Crew sequin deer shirt that I sometimes wear around Christmas, but that’s as far as my holiday outfits go. I am, however, loving all the hearts that are popping up on t-shirts, sweaters and other fashion items. I wanted to incorporate some fairly subtle hearts into my Valentine’s Day attire, this year.
I have several gray cardigans of varying styles and colors. Gray pulls me in every time because it just seems a little less harsh than black. I pulled out one of gray sweaters and got to work on creating a heart shaped elbow patch out of felt. Felt is a great choice for the elbow patch because it won’t fray and is thick enough for an elbow patch. I love these little elbow patches because they add a little touch of Valentine’s without going overboard. Plus, hearts are ubiquitous enough that you can wear the sweater well after Valentine’s Day.
What you’ll need:
Cardigan
Felt
Thread
Paper
Scissors
1. Cut a heart shaped pattern out of construction paper.
2. Pin paper pattern to felt and cut out two heart shapes.
3. Put on cardigan and pin hearts to elbows in the right spot. It helps to have someone else help you with this part.
4. Hand sew felt hearts to cardigan, going all the way around the heart shape.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
