What could be sweeter for Valentine’s Day than a fun Hot Cocoa Bar?! We survived Winter Storm Jonas this weekend, but not without lots of Hot Cocoa warmups! Hot Cocoa was on repeat all weekend long, for all the neighborhood kids who were out playing in the snow. Setting up a Hot Cocoa Bar is a fun way to make ordinary hot cocoa extra special. Here are my 5 tips for How to Set Up a Hot Cocoa Bar for Valentine’s Day.
1.Choices, Choices. The key to a great Hot Cocoa Bar is lots of add-in choices! Look around your kitchen to see what baking goods you might already have on hand that can be used as a hot cocoa add-in. Chocolate chips, salted caramel chips and white chocolate chips are a good start. Other flavors such as peppermint and cinnamon can also be used in hot cocoa. If you have any left over candy canes, they make a great stirring stick. Sprinkles and other little candies can also be added to hot cocoa. Don’t forget whipped cream and flavored syrups!
2. Decorate with Paper Goods. Making your Hot Cocoa Bar pretty with paper goods will also help make it more inviting. To decorate our Valentine’s Day themed Hot Cocoa Bar, I hung one of our To the Moon and Back prints and a colorful Heart Garland. You can make a heart garland with two different sizes of heart punches and colorful scrapbook paper. We used colorful food labels from our Rainbow Sprinkles Printable Party Collection to label all of the hot cocoa add-ins.
3. Marshmallows. Marshmallows are a must-have for any hot cocoa bar! Large, mini, jumbo, heart shaped – all types of marshmallows will work. Any flavor and size you can find will do, as long as you have marshmallows. For our hot cocoa bar, we used mini marshmallows and heart shaped strawberry marshmallows. Another Valentine’s Day marshmallow treat you could use is Valentine’s themed Peeps.
4. Use decorative bowls and vessels. Dress up your hot cocoa bar using beautiful containers for your add-ins. Mini bowls, footed glass dishes, apothecary jars, cake stands and decorative plates can all be used to make your Hot Cocoa Bar stand out. Coordinate your color choices with the paper goods you are using for the Hot Cocoa Bar. We chose to use white, pink and glass items in our Hot Cocoa Bar.
5. Don’t forget about mugs. Make sure to set out plenty of ceramic or glass mugs for guests. If you think guests will be taking hot cocoa outdoors, you can also use disposable paper or Styrofoam cups. Different size mugs are also great because they let guests choose the amount of hot cocoa.
Hope a great Hot Cocoa Bar helps you warm your heart on Valentine’s Day and through the rest of this winter!
