This has been the craziest winter ever in Kentucky! Our kids have missed more school due to snow this year than ever. I’ve lived here almost all my life and can not remember us ever having a winter like this. Of course, all these snow days have given us a serious case of cabin fever. After the first few days we missed, I started looking online for a few snow day ideas. If the weather where you are is anything like the weather here, you too are probably in need of some snow day ideas to add a little fun to your snowy days!!
Snowman Inspired Breakfast
One fun idea for a snow day is to make a snowman inspired breakfast. I found this idea over at Katherine Maries. If you’ve never checked out her site, go over there and do so very soon! She has the most amazingly creative ideas for kids. And, her photos are simply gorgeous.
Start your breakfast with a hard boiled egg snowman. My kids LOVED this. To make this I simply drew the snowman on the hardboiled egg with food safe markers.
Then, I served some little “snowballs” (yogurt covered raisins) to go with the egg snowman.
For a drink, I served “melted snow” water bottles. I brought all of these items, along with a toasted bagel, to my kids in bed. Of course, they were in my bed watching cartoons by that time. But, it was still breakfast in bed to them!
Hot Cocoa Tasting Party
Another fun idea is to have a Hot Cocoa Tasting party. This is also a great activity if your kids happen to have friends over to play during a snow day.
I lined up four different types of hot cocoa for the kids to taste. They were numbered so they wouldn’t know how I made each of the recipes.
I used the four following recipes: 1) Milk with Chocolate Syrup heated in the microwave, 2) a Hot Cocoa flavored Keurig cup, 3) Dylan’s Candy Bar Peppermint Hot Chocolate mix, and 4) Instant Hot Cocoa Mix.
The winner of the Hot Cocoa Tasting Challenge was a tie. They liked the instant hot cocoa and the milk with chocolate syrup mixes the best. My daughter and her friend had fun making out their little score sheets for the Challenge.
Stay tuned for more Snow Day Ideas tomorrow. And, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the kids will go back to school very soon!!!!
