13. I can’t believe that number, so I’m just going to keep repeating it. 13. My sweet little curly headed girl has officially become a teenage. It seems like just yesterday, she was reaching up to me, asking, “Hold you?” Now, she’s taller than me and I’m looking up to her. 13.
Just to rub it in a little bit, she had a full social calendar the weekend of her birthday 🙂 Her 13th birthday fell on a Friday night, along with Cotillion. We picked her and a friend up from the dance, then took them straight to a church weekend retreat until Sunday late morning. She had a great weekend and couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend her 13th birthday, but of course it made this momma a little sad that she was gone all weekend. I know you momma’s out there feel me – we miss them when they’re gone. Don’t even mention college to me – I can’t bear to even consider it right now!
Since Mira was planning to be gone most of the weekend, she decided to not have a birthday party with her friends this year. Instead, we had a luncheon with only family after church on Sunday. She did however, pick a fun theme for 13th birthday lunch – a pink and navy Preppy Whale Party, inspired by one of her favorite brands, Vineyard Vines. It was so much fun designing a coordinating Preppy Whale Printable Party Collection for her.
We create a pink and navy dessert table full of pink and navy preppy inspired desserts! It’s one my favorite dessert tables to date, plus I didn’t have to do much baking for it to all come together! One thing I did make was a Coconut Cake, one of our favorites. Not only is it super tasty and moist, but I also love the how it looks with the texture of the coconut covering the cake.
The only other dessert I really made were the Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Pops. They are great way to add a little color into your dessert table and they are so easy to make. No baking, just dipping the marshmallows into chocolate!
We ordered Pink Whale Cookies from Belles of the Bluegrass after seeing some of their whale cookies on their Instagram page. They were as yummy as they are beautiful and I wasn’t too disappointed that we had a couple left over to have with my coffee the next morning.
Mini store bought cupcakes were topped with our Preppy Whale Cupcake Toppers. This printable party collection felt true to her style with the color palette and preppy graphics. I love that it can be used both for a preppy loving teenager, but was also be equally cute for a baby shower or 1st birthday!
Finally, we served sparkling pink lemonade topped with cotton candy. The kids loved pushing the cotton candy down into the sparkling pink lemonade from Trader Joes.
The invitation also highlights the monogram with a small whale graphic.
We created a little drink bar, highlighted with a banner and navy anchor.
