Every year, I put up a tree in our kids’ bedrooms. We try to coordinate the tree to their room decor and to their interests. When my son was younger, we used to hang match cars and little trucks all over the tree. As he has gotten older, we shifted gears a little and focused on a sports themed tree. My daughter’s tree has evolved over the years, too. This year, we decided to add some DIY Lilly Pulitzer touches to reflect her love for the brand. Her Lilly Pultizer Christmas Tree may be our favorite tree, yet!
The first Christmas presents I bought this year were months ago in August. Lilly has a fantastic end of the summer sale each year and I stocked up on some great pieces for myself and my girl. Mira – if you are reading this, please IGNORE that last sentence and just skip on down! I can’t wait until she opens them all on Christmas morning!
We printed some Lilly patterns by searching Lilly Pulitzer wallpaper online. After finding a few patterns my girl liked, we simply printed them to make both a paper garland and paper circle ornaments for the tree. The best part? It didn’t cost us anything at all!!
For the circle ornaments, I made two sizes – 2″ and 4″. I used a 2″ punch to cut the smaller circles and a round paper cutter to cut the 4″ circles. The ornaments were made using this tutorial, except I used a hot glue gun to adhere the circles. For the tree skirt, I used a Lilly sheet from Garnett Hill that we used as a tablecloth for Mira’s 11th birthday. I’ve honestly never purchase a tree skirt for a tree. Blankets, scarves, old skirts, pieces of material, and even sheets that you already might have make great tree skirts.
Little Christmas touches were added around Mira’s room. I don’t go completely overboard, instead choosing to add little touches around the room.
No matter how the rest of the room is decorated, we always include Mira’s collection of Nutcrackers.
When Mira did ballet, we gave her a Nutcracker each year to commemorate her performance. Since both she and her brother love Nutcrackers, we have continued that tradition each year.
