Earth Day kinda snuck up on me this year with Easter being so late in the Spring. I thought about it last night and realized that we were going to have a rare day where both kids would be home after school. Lately, with track and baseball starting up, there aren’t a lot of days where both kids are at home after school. I came with three simple ways Earth Day Ideas for my kids to enjoy after school, today!
One of my Instagram favorites lately has been Katherine Marie. I love seeing pictures from all the amazing activities she plans for her kids. If you haven’t checked her out, hop over there and do so! Her photos and ideas inspired each of these Earth Day ideas. Each of these are super simple and quick — you still have time to plan them before the kids get home from school!
Earth Day Snack
This healthy after school snack is made from pretzels, cucumbers and strawberries. I used a mini leaf cookie cutter I bought this fall. You could also use a small heart or circle cookie cutter to cut out the leaf shapes. I love the idea of serving a healthy Earth Day snack with some of the Earth’s natural goodies!
DIY Earth Day Banner
For this simple craft, kids can cut out small green shapes to glue to the blue circles to look like the earth. Once they have completed 5-6 earth shapes, they can string them together to make an Earth Day Banner.
Earth Day Scavenger Hunt
This is another simple activity that kids will enjoy. Make a quick list of some outdoor items for kids to find. I included sedimentary rocks since my son is currently studying the different types of rocks. Also, you can include trash on your list, if you’d like, so you can discuss the importance of picking up litter and taking care of the Earth.
Happy Earth Day! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
