We’ve been doing an advent calendar at our house since the start of December. Each day, the kids have received little gifts, such as lollipops or Christmas pajamas. But, as Christmas approaches, I have a fun new tradition that I’m going to do with them: 12 Days of Christmas Fun. Each day, when they open the advent calendar, it will declare that it is a Christmas themed day. I first spotted this idea on one of my favorite blogs, Katherine Marie. Can I just say that I LOVE everything on that site?!? If you haven’t checked it out, you must!!
For 12 days leading up to Christmas (starting on the 11th), the kids will open a box that will have a few little Christmas items and a list of fun activities for the day. Most of the items, except for books, were purchased at the dollar store. Each box cost me around $5, maybe a little more with the books. But, I even purchased most of the books at our 1/2 price book store (which just happens to be right near a dollar store;)
Below is the box I made for Gingerbread Day. You can see the activities I planned for the day, too. I used some of the activities that Katherine Marie used for her 12 Days of Christmas Fun, but I also found several other activities via Pinterest.
To make the boxes, I purchased 4 sets of Christmas gift boxes. I filled the boxes with the themed items, then wrote out the daily activities on one of the templates I made. After everything was in the box, I tied it with jute twine and added a number circle for each day. If you would like to make your 12 Days of Christmas Fun Boxes, the printables I used are available to download for free. I printed mine on kraft paper, but you could use white or any color paper that you like. To see the activities I use for each day, follow along on my Instagram account. I’ll be posting pictures of the boxes each day!
