The absolute best part of doing what I do is being able to be a small part of someone’s special event. In this case, a dear family friend, Crystal, contacted me about helping to create a surprise Luau birthday party for her bestie’s 30th. Working with Crystal was so much fun; she knew exactly the look she wanted and her attention to detail made for a very special evening! Even though the party was held in the birthday girl’s own backyard, Crystal was able to keep it surprise. Of course, the birthday girl’s husband, Chris, was in on the surprise and was able to sucessfully keep her away from her house, while Crystal and her friends set up the party.
Crystal dreamed up the idea of pouring sand down the center of the dinner table. She then sprinkled seashells and paper umbrellas down the sand and added a pop of color by filling vases with colorful water.
Each guest’s chair was adorned with a colorful lei. By the end of the night, many of the party guests were wearing their leis.
Guests were treated to a menu of beef brisket, pork ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork and baked beans. For dessert, they enjoyed a chocolate cake with fresh strawberry filling (YUM!) from The Twisted Sifter and Oreo cupcakes.
The dessert table also included a fun assortment of jello shots. Crystal served the jello shots in eight different glass jars — a fun, creative way to display the treats!
Great job, Crystal!! I’m sure it was a party that the birthday girl, and the other guests, will not soon forget!
