So what does it really mean?
Type 1s ARE MOTIVATED TO LIVE THE RIGHT WAY. THEY FEAR BEING BAD, EVIL OR CORRUPT.
You might be an Enneagram Type 1 if:
- You believe there is a right way to do tasks
- You want to be seen as a good person
- You try hard to achieve as close to perfection as possible
- You are loyal, hardworking & honest
- You have an inner critic that is constantly criticizing you
- You worry that you are irredeemably defective
- You feel like you have to earn rest or pleasure

Type 1s Have a High Sense of Integrity
Type 1s have high ideals to make themselves and the world better. They are ordered, rational, and organized and desire to maintain high standards. However, their high expectations of themselves can sometimes cross into perfectionism and being overly critical.

Type 1s Have a Relentless Inner Critic that Drives Them
This Inner Critic is present in all Type 1s and it drives them to constantly criticize themselves. Type 1s often feel like even when they succeed, they could have done even better.

A few actions steps just for Type 1s:
1. Quiet that Inner Critic
Your inner critic is a liar. Yep! I said that. That inner critic is not telling you the truth. You are already good, worthy, and valued, just as you are. You don’t have to be perfect to achieve goodness. When that inner critic shows up and starts telling you something different, feel free to tell it to buzz off!
2. Learn to Appreciate the Positive in Everything
Your natural tendency is to see the errors or things that need to be corrected in every situation, including with yourself and others, too. It can be your superpower, but it can also lead to focusing on the negative. By recognizing the good in a situation, you can redirect your thinking to a more positive space. It will also help to take the pressure off of you to always make improvements.
3. Prioritize Rest and Relaxation
You do not have to earn the right to rest. Rest is not the reward for hard work. You can rest and prioritize time for relaxation at any time. It does not have to be saved for times when you’ve already worked hard. Just by being you, you deserve to rest and relax whenever you’d like.
