Just 6 more days until Christmas, y’all! It’s almost that time! Who’s ready? Most of my presents have been purchased, but I still have lots of wrapping to do! Tonight might the night I lock myself in the guest bedroom with some hot cocoa and Christmas tunes and get it all done. Anyone want to join me?
When we moved into our house, I loved the bones and structure, but I knew there was just too much going on for me in the kitchen. The layout was fine, but I just wanted to lighten it up. I’ve always loved white kitchens. Our previous house we remodeled and my favorite spot was our white kitchen. There was also a desk in the kitchen, however, we have an office just down the hall from the kitchen. For how we use the space, it just seemed like it was a waste of space and would end up being a mess all the time. Here’s a couple before pictures of the space:
The cabinets were in good shape and we had so much counter space to work with. I just wasn’t crazy about the colors of the cabinets, counters or backsplash. It just seemed a little too busy for me with the slate flooring, so it had to be painted. We switched out the light fixtures and granite, too and added just little custom cabinetry.
For me, the white is just so much calmer and cleaner. I realize a lot people prefer the warmth of wood cabinetry, but I’ve always leaned toward cooler tones in my color choices. I’ve added some warmth in the space with a wood farm table, baskets, and little boxwoods.
We had the desk removed and replaced it with a big wall of cabinets and deep drawers. This is probably the most functional change we made. It gave me so much more room to store cake stands, baking equipment and large platters. Huge, deep drawers in the kitchen really are a game changer!
One other functional change we made was removing the microwave over the cook top and replacing it with some custom cabinetry. The microwave was too close to the cook top and felt like it really closed in the space. Now, while I am cooking it feels much more open than before.
For Christmas I added some simple pink, lime green, and blue touches around the kitchen. The colors are pulled from the same colors that I used to decorate in the living room.
