We started Back to School yesterday and it was a little rough! There might have been a few tears the night before and even yesterday morning. No one in our house was quite ready to see summer end. Does it seem like summer gets shorter and shorter every year? But, I am happy to report that this morning was much smoother than yesterday!
The night before school started we had a little family get together to celebrate the start of school and a send off for some family members who were going to Europe for a long trip. I decided to make it a back to school party and add a few school themed decorations to the kids’ table. There’s nothing like a party to help ease the sting of doing something you don’t want to do!
The key to this party was simplicity. It was kind of a last minute plan, so I gathered some school themed items from around the house. The only item I purchased for this back to school party was yellow straws. Those were used to make pencil drink stirrers. Our wood oversized ruler made a great table runner and plain notebook paper served as a place mat. Mini chalkboard signs were the perfect name holders. And, both fresh and Styrofoam apples from around the house added a little color to the table.
Check back tomorrow to see the school themed cake we had! It was a fun night and may start to be a back to school eve tradition! What traditions do you have to get your kids excited for Back to School?
