Our bedroom is my favorite place in our whole house. Specifically, I really, really love our bed. Apparently, I’m not the only one because both our dog and son also hop into this bed any chance they get. Maybe that’s why I love the white bedding – I’m constantly washing and bleaching after one of those two have made themselves at home in our bed. Truly, it is the most comfortable bed, so I can’t really blame them. Is it weird that I look forward to getting in that bed every evening? You totally do that too, right?
When we moved into our house, this bedroom was a pretty bright yellow. It was the first thing that I changed in the house. In fact, it was within a couple of days that we painted the room this light grey-blue color. Since we’ve been married, we’ve lived in three houses and we’ve always had some color of very pale blue as our bedroom wall color. Not sure why we keep going back to some shade of blue, but it seems to be working.
For some time, I had been looking for a patterned fabric with teal and orange – the two colors we wanted to use in the bedroom. After lots and lots of searching, I found a Pottery Barn duvet with a pattern that I loved. Unfortunately, I wasn’t looking for a patterned duvet, but simply some fabric to make a bed skirt with matching pillow shams. But, I couldn’t find any other fabric I liked better, so I ordered the duvet and cut it all apart. There was enough fabric to make this bed skirt and the three pillows with plenty left over. It felt a little weird to cut up a brand new duvet cover, but once I got over that, it was easy to transform!
Turns out the right shade of orange lamp isn’t easy to find, either. However, I did find the perfect pumpkin orange spray paint, so the lamps got a little makeover, too. And, this is my all time favorite picture of my kids, even though it’s close to 10 year old. It perfectly describes their relationship, even to today!
When I made this It’s Just the Nearness of You art print for our Valentine’s Day Collection. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we danced to this song at our wedding, so it’s always held a special place in my heart.
