Last week, we had our first snow day of the 2014-15 school year, but we didn’t actually have any snow day. They actually cancelled the school day due to below 0 degree temperatures. Since we had a free day, we decided to go see the new Annie movie. It was super cute; both my 8 year old son and almost 12 year old daughter loved it! I really like how it updated the story, but included several nods to the original. After seeing it, the kids started asking about the differences between this version and the original version. The next night, we streamed the original Annie via Amazon Prime.
When I was little my uncle went to New York City and brought me back the soundtrack from Annie the Musical. I was totally and completely obsessed with it and listened it to it over and over on a daily basis! I knew every word to those songs. My mom still has that record, although it’s pretty worn out! For our family movie night, I made each of the kids little tickets and game them to them after school that day.
For our movie night, I set up a little Annie themed snack table. The table started with lemonade, popcorn, and some yellow and red candies. I made two other simple Annie inspired treats.
My kids’ favorite party snack was the breadstick and cheese mop with a pail full of carrots. My daughter insisted on eating hers during “It’s a Hard Knock Life” song. If your kid loves to dip his or her carrots in ranch dip or other dip, you could also put the dip in the bottom of these little pails.
For the treat bags, I decorated red kraft bags with white paper to look like Annie’s dress (idea via Pinterest). A little gold locket, like Annie’s locket, made from twine and construction paper, hung around the top of the bag.
Have you seen the new Annie? What did you think?
