In the last year, I have grown my Instagram account by over 80K. There were many factors that contribute to that growth. One big factor was being consistent. But, I also found that two different types of posts were critical to my growth. If growing your Instagram account is one of your goals for 2021, you’re going to want to keep reading.
Post Type 1: Shareable Posts
A shareable post is one that is defined as a post that a lot of people will want to share either on their own feed or in their stores. If you are wondering what type of posts are shareable, think about the types of posts you have shared. Some ideas might be quotes or funny posts or posts that describe someone.
Let’s take a look at one of my more Shareable Posts:
This post was a simple graphic about what type of Starbucks drink someone might order, based on their Enneagram Type. As you can see it was shared over 3K times. Although it got 7,479 likes, since it was shared over 3K times, that means that thousands of new people saw it that might not have seen it because they didn’t already follow me. It led to 358 new followers, most likely many of those were followers of people who shared it.
Shareable posts are great not only because they lead to new people seeing your work, but it also lends social credit to your posts. If someone new sees that one or more. of their friends have shared you, they will start to wonder if they need to follow you. If their friends are sharing you, then you will automatically develop some social credit.
Post Type 2: Savable Posts
Another type of post that I love is the savable post. A post that gives out useful content is one that is likely to be saved. Let’s look at the above example from my account. This post gave specific tips for understanding others, based on their Enneagram Type. It provided useful content that people could learn from and then apply to their every day lift.
There are a couple of reasons why Savable Posts are so important. First, if you are providing useful content to people, not only will they want to save your posts, but also, it will make it more likely that they will follow you for more valuable information. If you look at my example above, over 10K people saved this post, which also led to 1600 new people following me.
Second, at this time, the Instagram algorithm prioritized when someone saves your post. So, if someone saves your post, the algorithm will recognize that and push your post out to even more people. That’s going to lead to it being viewed by even more people and potentially going viral.
Which Type of Post Should You Focus on More?
I’ve seen so many online Instagram “experts” claim that you should stop focusing on shareable posts and only focus on savable posts. But, I think they are wrong and here’s why: they are BOTH equally important. Of course, if you can create a post that it both shareable and savable, that is ideal! But, if you find it easier to separate the two, then focus on both of them. You want your content to both be valuable to people so they will save it and in turn follow you. But, if you don’t create shareable content, then your content won’t be seen by nearly as many people.
You need both of those elements to create an account with dramatic Instagram growth. So, start brainstorming new posts that are shareable and/or savable, today! Come back and let us know if these posts lead to growth for you!
